Comparison between Spiral Classifier and Hydro-cyclone in detail - Xinhai

Both Spiral Classifier and Hydro-cyclone are classifiers. The classifiers consist of four types generally, Raising Water Hydro-classifier, Cone Classifier, Centrifugal Classifier(Hydro-cyclone), Mechanical Classifier(Rake Classifier, Spiral Classifier, Tank Classifier). The reason why we take these two classifiers, for instance, is that they are main classifiers in the mine plant nowadays. In the following, we will compare the two equipment in detail.
Spiral Classifier is one of the Mechanical Classifiers, made of a U-shaped water tank, Spiral Device, Transmission Device, Lift-Fall Equipment, Axial Bearing and other parts.
The working principle of Spiral Classifier is that slurry grind-ed from the feeder of the Spiral Classifier to U-shaped tank, and the light fine particles will be floated in the surface of slurry through the constant working spiral device, then the particles run over from the overflow weir. Finally, the coarse heavy particles are set in the bottom of the channel, from the spiral device to the discharge port, then into the mill again. 
There are two methods to distinguish Spiral Classifier, one is according to the number of the spiral bearing, including Single Spiral Classifier and Double Spiral Classifier, the other is according to the height of the weir, including High-Weir type, Low- Weir type and Immerged -Weir type. 
Hydro-cyclone is one machine depending on the Centrifugal force, made of feeding pipe, cone cell, cylinder shell, discharge sand port, overflow pipe the other parts.
The working principle of Hydro-cyclone is that slurry from the feeding pipe into the hydro-cyclone cylinder with 0.5-2.5 kg/cm2 pressure along the tangent direction, in other words, is that slurry twirl in the cell producing great centrifugal force, and the coarse particles are thrown onto the cell wall, falling along the spiral line and discharged from the discharge and mouth. Thus the fine particle and water form raising spiral flow in the center and discharge from the overflow pipe.    
Simple structure, stable parts, small volume and square, big capacity and convenient operation and maintenance, low cost, high frequency and separation accuracy, little time of the slurry staying are all the advantages of the hydro-cyclone. And these specialties will be more obvious when working with the large ball mill. Of course, hydro-cyclone has shortcuts, for example, the slurry must be raised by a pump with stable pressure, the demand to the slurry concentration and particle size is strict, the wear and tear of the machine is serious and so on. 
Comparing Spiral Classifier with Hydro-cyclone, the prominent advantage of Spiral Classifier is reliable-working, simple-operation, stable-classifier area, more fine overflow particle, big tank-slope, and easy to form returns with mill, except for this, and there some improvements on this machine by manufacturers, for example, Xinhai add the amount of auto-raising and return-sand device to replace the set of ball mill big head and work stably. The shortcuts of this machine are heavy, low classify rate, easy broken main bearing and inconvenient to check and repair, the sealed bearing of the bottom of overflow, and uneasy to get fine flowing, especially when the demand of the overflow particles ﹣0.074mm is over 90%, the machine can not do this.
In general, Spiral Classifier and Hydro-cyclone are used in the processing plant with a wide range, as every coin has two sides.
